favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian’s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills’ albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of “can’t say goodbye” by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. for the seventh in most excellent unlimiteds series of collaborations with danny krivit, the exalted editor reshapes two classics that regularly lit up the loft and the paradise garage. wars epic 1972 instrumental city country city drops its placid pastoral vibes in favor of a solely urban approach, trimmed from the lp version s ten minutes to a fighting weight of six. searing solos cresting over war s trademark latin funk make it plain why this has long been a foundation cut for deeper dancefloors. the flip sees mr. k showing off his skills at the edit block with a meticulous tightening of jakkis sun,sun, sun - the original record, a feel-good, warm weather mood- lifter, was notorious for awkward tape edits (now known to be the work of walter gibbons) that for years left djs frustrated as they attempted to achieve smooth blends in the face of shifting tempos and downbeats. krivit pulls the pieces of this larry levan favorite apart and reassembles them as only a veteran audio mechanic could do, giving the tune the logical musical arc it never had. while each of these tracks previously existed as singles, this is the first

james dexters star has been rising for a while now - the young brit turning out killer tracks regularly on the back of hugely well received dj sets. on his second outing for dessous recordings, dexter does what he does best - four slices of deep, funky and vibing house music for the floor. lead track drift is typical of dexters flair for subtle, edgy sounds, wrapped inside a warm and inviting groove. elements come and go, but the shuffling, infection feel runs throughout. take me is a more upfront vibe with a seriously bumping groove - dexter clearly well versed in the roots of house music from chicago. ‘whose rules ?’ is a snappy, bright and lively production, with a sub bass that will troubler some of the world’s best club systems in the coming months. the light, jazzy vocals offsets the groove perfectly - sure to be a big tune for a wide variety of djs. the last track of the release is disco deep - and it pretty much does exactly what it says - a swung, groovy feel punctuated by disco claps and balearic flourishes that will sound as good on the beach as in the basement.

oxias classic domino gets reworked for its ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. a decade after initially seeing the light, oxias now classic domino gets reworked to celebrate its anniversary. the new release features a new cut by oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than frankey & sandrino, robag wruhme and matador. the ep will be released through agoria’s newly found record label sapiens on february 24th. ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house djs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, its a very dear project to oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. the set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by oxia ever. finding remixers took some time, the amazing frankey & sandrino whos track acamar is my absolute favourite of 2015, matador that just launched his rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at kompakt robag wruhme. they are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this ep
